Digital Ethics

Generally ethics refers to the issues of morality. More precisely, ethics reflects the human behavior if it is morally right or wrong. Being in the digital era, it has become more complex to make the intelligent decisions. Sometimes our actions are morally wrong unintentionally, and sometimes we do the morally wrong activities by our wish.
Similar is the case in Harvard University. A news in the web minnpost has published about the academic dishonesty of the students in Harvard University. It is alleged that around 125 students might have plagiarized or collaborated to the external or digital sources inappropriately for their take home final paper in spring. Those students are under investigation. If these students are proved of academic dishonesty, then the students might be suspended for a year. Harvard President Drew Faust says, these academic dishonesty is a betrayal to the trust of the academic institutions. The Students say that cheating is not wide spread and they do understand the academic code. One of the students says, "I worked really hard to get here, and I wouldn’t want to get kicked out for something stupid.”
The article discusses about the inappropriate collaboration of the external sources. The students are all the time in the Internet. Therefore, it is hard for them not to go through the Internet. Usually copy and paste from the Internet makes the work really simple. Most students are usually engaged in their full time job in order to pay their school fee and various expenses. As a result, the simplest way is often used. No matter of acquiring skills and gaining the knowledge, what students need is A!
The name of the article is "Cheating at Harvard: probe focuses on plagiarism in era of blurry ethics" and the link to the article is http://www.minnpost.com/christian-science-monitor/2012/09/cheating-harvard-probe-focuses-plagiarism-era-blurry-ethics.
In my point of view, the news article is about the academic dishonesty, which is not a new topic. The academic dishonesty is a big concern in the morality of student's life, and it is very  hard for students to implement.
A professor of  management at Rutgers University says, 'Collaborating and taking material from the Internet are “becoming part of the student psyche, so they don’t report it as cheating.' Yes, it is a morally wrong thing to take others work and use it just like your own. It hurts all the educational institutions. All students has to follow the academic honor code. The data and information in the Internet are not for us to use as our own, but it is to learn something new and innovate new ideas from that point. The digital technology has grown so rapidly that privacy has been a great issue. thus, we have to take actions with our own conscience.
